Elmhurst Hospital is corrupt. *** no.

Original review Aug 03, 2024

Don't come here if you have a life threatening ailment. Don't come here if you are in the psych ER. Once you're awake, your good treatment is over, and you'll be put into hellish circumstances.

To receive Monoclonal Antibody Treatment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On October 18, 2021, I went to Elmhurst Hospital to receive Monoclonal Antibody Treatment. When I arrived there two Filipino nurses who was in charge was fairly nice but one of them asked me why I am sick from COVID because I was not vaccinated.

That is stereotyping a person of color. I am vaccinated. When the treatment was over, I had to leave. No problem when I got up and went to the restroom.

Went I came out the restroom I started to cough real bad and spitting up from the treatment, not one of those two nurses help me. They escorted me to exit out the hospital while I was coughing profusely.

I was not asked was I ok or do I need water. Also they don't disinfect isolated room because they sat a gentle in my seat after I got.

Dissatisfaction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I received a call today over an $80 bill that I have not yet even received in the mail. I don't understand why Elmhurst hospital would have someone call about a bill that has not even been received. Are things that desperate at Elmhurst hospital?

Horrible 3 day stay for spinal surgery

Elmhurst Hospital - Horrible 3 day stay for spinal surgery
Elmhurst Hospital - Horrible 3 day stay for spinal surgery - Image 2

First got a call on Friday that said don't eat after midnight and come in Monday at 8:15 for spinal surgery. Got a folder from surgeon that said I should receive a call the day before between 3-6 for the time to be there.

By 8pm and no call I tried several numbers. Finally I think a doctor answered and said he was sorry that I was supposed to be there at 6am. Had the surgery on that Monday, and therapist took me for a 5 minute walk past 5 rooms and up 5 stairs and back to my room. She removed the 2nd therapy time from the board.

I had so much pain meds in my system from the surgery I had a number 2 pain. Didn't know this was not going to last. So then staff gave me 2 Norco. After several hours I needed to go to bathroom.

Nurse's aide took me where I was soaking wet and blacked out. So they put me in bed and had to stay an extra day in severe unrelenting pain. So after this they had me sit in a chair that if I even moved a buzzer went off and they would jump in the room and tell me not to get up. The 3ed day I was in the same chair for 10 hours straight.

Not until I got the discharge papers did I know I was not supposed to be in same position for more than 2 hours. I had to take a Med Van home and moaned pacing for 2 1/2 hours since this was the first time I was in upright position for days. Following day as I crawled down the stairs at home, Med Van at my door...handed me a packet with same discharge info and one about Sars. Then 3 days later at 2am I woke up feeling something in my mouth.

Got up..my pain had not been controlled at all the entire time...made 3 calls to my surgeon ...anyway, had a botton crown in my mouth that I could have swallowed. Tried to contact hospital patient experience...different depts....no return. Posted my missing tooth on facebook with the bill...nothing from hospital. then I followed up with surgeon and asked him why the hospital sent me blood test results in my chart which were very low...I was very anemic.

He never checked out my back, just told me 5 times to go to the er and that I could have a blood clot.

Never saw the surgeon in the hospital after the surgery. And that they will not call back is even more maddening.Don't

Told billing office I want to dispute charge and never responded . now in a collection agency and sent to transunion and dropped my credit score bu 30 points.

Treat a patient with respect and as a nursing staff should be caring not a jerk

My son has a condition diagnosed by a Dr he has no other choice to get treatment when this condition starts up with has to do with the airway , because it is needed to come frequent they treated him with the additude of this person again coming to get treatment gave lack of care and empathy concerning what he was going through knowing that he has been diagnosed with this they treated him like if he is making his condition up , the nurse stood there smiling with a smirk like if he was lying ? Really?

This just happened that is why I am writing this ! I'm am disgusted that they can treat a patient like this !

Worth Hospital to Deal with!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

It took two hospital procedures for Elmhurst to tell us they will not accept the discount and patient bill the difference. Plus we were never told upfront that we would patient billed, we signed if our insurance doesn’t pay we would be responsible for the payment which in this case wasn’t the case.

They paid. We all know billing to insurance is over 100% higher than a self-pay patient. When you go into Elmhurst you’re not given the option. So they take the insurance (which our insurance doesn’t have a network) we can go to any provider in or out of network, our insurance will pay same rate for all providers.

Example of one procedure: Elmhurst billed my insurance $6,513.00$ & based on my plan ineligible amount is 0.00 (because it’s covered at 100% - no copay, no deducible). Network discount is $5,732.58 (as my insurance pay at Medicare rates) and Elmhurst accepted a check for 780.42. They are expecting us to pay the difference. Which is absurd.

Offered us 25% discount, after we provided all financial information and letting them know what we have left at the end of the month to live. According to Leticia, Rick and some other reps they treat everyone the same, which I know for a fact they don’t. They accept patients and write off balances all the time. I have blasted them on FB and last night received a call from the CEO stating she wasn’t aware of this after I left numerous message for her.

And to top it off, they send both my account and my husbands to collections without even talking with us about any options. $16k worth of bill they billed us, after our insurance paid at 100% for over $2000.

This is by far the WORST billing provider and I would strongly suggest staying away from Elmhurst and go to a provider who will work with you. SHAME ON YOU ELMHURST FOR RAPING PEOPLE FINANCIALLY!!!!!

Great emergency room if you don't mind the billing problems

I would love to give this emergency room a 5 star review. The staff is competent and caring, the facility is clean and modern.

However, the emergency room doctors' billing service is absolutely awful. They bill the patient as though there were no insurance! When you try to straighten out the billing problem, they waste your time and tell you that your insurance is not paying for anything and that you are responsible! What???

This has happened to us over and over again. The group that sends out the crazy bills is Elmhurst Emergency Medical Services Ltd.

Not all services offered on weekends

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Our daughter fell and hit her head, so we went to urgent Care in Addison since everything was fine, it was just a precaution. She needed a CT, which we expected, and we knew that was going to g to cost.

However no E of the urgent Cares offer CTs on the weekend, which forced us to have to be admitted to the ER, only to have the same exact stuff done as the urgent Care. This meant we would be slapped with an ER visit, billing out to insurance over 2k all because out of all their urgent care locations, not one offered a CT on Saturdays. Now we are being faced with $1500 in bills, half of which is the ER visit. It goes to show that health Care is not their focus, it's more money.

Just one way to squeeze every dime out of people. We will vbe contacting the hospital, and possibly getting out of Elmhurst healthcare for good, which is a shame because we love the draft, we will not support this organization if they continue to put money we before health Care.

I just heard back from the hospital, they are refusing to drop the ER charge. We will be leaving this hospital and Everything associated with it.

The doctors we have seen are good for the most part. We will not miss this hospital after this experience.

Just Want Your money

Elmhurst has placed me in collection for a bill I've never seen. I have spoken to them on several occasions to place my billing on one account and I would paid it, but apparently they did not.

One time when I called about their billing and requested (for the second time) to combine my bills, I was told I had to pay a certain amount and when I told them that I was unable to pay that amount, I was told that they would sue me. I had to remind them that they were breaking the law, read them the statute and they backed down.

Finances are a priority not patients nor wellness.

your collection department leaves much to be desired. I too have had many problems with this department.

I quit calling because I NEVER received an answer and was promised a call back w/the answer and a call back was never received. I started sending e mails and do receive an answer most times but not really helpful. I have been coming to this hospital for many years and have seriously thought about changing to Central DuPage. I really like all my Dr's.

or I would have already changed.

Really a shame. Seems they are more interested in looking pretty than helping with billing problems.

I think the My Chart application is the best way from Doctors, to assist us for us as clients, to see our medical results, appointment reminders, or details of our appointments. Then receiving a call from your doctor, if your tests are positive. I’m being a patient in Elmhurst since 9 years. I like this hospital Clinics, even emergency room, Test offices, Nuclear medicine, As someone that is sick...having attention fromGood and caring doctors, nurses, and clerical Staff. ..counts a million. The pharmacy is the only one that needs more staff at the windows the most busiest days.

I can’t complain for the good service.

Also, the Hospital is closed to the subway and bus travel.

I recommen the Hospital and the Elmhurst Clinics with 10

I went in for a routine yearly physical exam which I was assured by Doctor Martinez and the nurses that it would be covered 100% by my employer's plan (BlueCross BlueShield, Lumenos HSA), Blue Access PPO. To my surprise I started receiving Bills after Bills on a regular basis for all kinds of different charges ranging from 3.00 to $495.00 totaling over $1000 in charges for a preventive "routine" PHYSICAL exam.???

I could not believe it and of course refused to pay that amount for an exam that should have been covered 100%... I have been getting all kind of calls and letters from collection agencies now...
